Result analysis...

My survey received 10 responses in the end. All the results appear to be from my target audience, and all are very detailed and helpful. Whilst I was hoping for a couple more responses for this survey, I’m happy with the ones I got as they have plenty of detail to analyse.

To gain more responses, I perhaps should’ve gone directly to the places my target audience is likely to be, for example, speaking to coursemates who are looking to the future of their career, or attending open mic nights where people are trying to ‘break in’ to the industry. However, I recognise that it was a long and detailed survey, so not everyone would have the capacity to fill it in.

With some initial assessment of the results, I recognised a few key areas the respondents identified as needing help with. These included creating content, finding the right audience, growing their follower base, boosting engagement and branding on a budget. There are also areas of the survey that got little response, for example, the section on working with digital marketing tools, or less relevant ones, e.g. the collaboration section. However, I’m glad they were in there, as the lack of response tells me a lot, too! Now I know that these aren’t areas my target audience looks into, so I can focus less on these.

The results of this survey have helped me narrow down what the outcome of the project will be. Whilst I had predicted that time constraints and a lack of funds would be the main issues brought up in the survey, lack of knowledge was brought up more than time constraints. This leads me away from creating a done-for-you content creation package, as this mainly helps relieve time constraints, it can be costly and doesn’t teach the client anything about doing it themselves. Instead, I will create a series of small courses covering different areas of music marketing, mainly the ones mentioned in the survey. After looking at the survey responses it seems like I can create 8 courses: 4 courses each looking at a different platform (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok), a course on Branding on a Budget, one on How to find your Target Audience, one on How to Boost Engagement, and finally A Guide to Alternative Revenue Streams. However, I worry that this is not viable for this project, and there is no focus on content creation, which is a topic mentioned a lot in the survey.

It’s all about analysing and developing as we go, so I’m going to keep working on it!
